The Boat People is a psychological thriller. It explores the idea that secrets can be locked within a specific geographical space and that these secrets can be accessed through dreams.
The two sisters, Alice and Cleo, are aware of the fact that a stranger can tap into a recurring dream that might give them clues to what happened in their childhood, when they lived abroad in Vietnam.
The more deeply Jared, the dreamer, becomes enmeshed in the dreams, the more dangerous it becomes, to the point where he can no longer discern reality from dream. Should the girls believe everything they learn, or should they resist, and accept the stories they've grown up with - Are Jared's dreams really a window on the truth or are they just dreams? |
